Over at LDS Tech, Tom Welch has posted an article on some of the power features of the online scriptures. Check it out.

Very interesting…

I particularly like the topic search as it helps bridge the gap and expand understanding of the scriptures.

Before that post I had mainly used the scripture site for an easy ‘cut and paste’ method for handouts so I wouldn’t have to re-type them (lazy, I know… but not *ALL* of my lessons are prepared with *weeks* in advance so time can become an issue).

I find it very comforting (and testimony bolstering, if bolstering is a word) that the Church is using the resources and technology boom to the fullest in making information, no… GREAT information more available and tangible for everyone to benefit.

With so many distractions in the world today, and particularly on the internet (don’t ask me how many times I look at ESPN.com daily), it is a breath of fresh air going to the church website to keep me anchored. It also helps that they continue to look for new ways to keep it up-to-date and progressive.

Regarding distractions, Elder Oaks gave a talk in the April 2001 conference entitled, ‘Focus and Priorities’… One of my favorites. Look it up if you get a second. (FYI: An lds.org search yields 294 results under the search, “Focus and Priorities”, with the first two being the actual talk from the Ensign and the Liahona, respectively… I looked around at the other results and found some very interesting material.)

By the way, Joel, where’s the list of top ten favorite websites I asked you about?

[Joel: I’ll get right on that, Dave.]

Joel,

I know that this isn’t exactly “scriptures”, but why is it that since the Church links to the Encyclopedia of Mormonism Online, we can’t link it on LUWS? It seems that it should be “an approved” site.

Inquiring minds….

[Joel: Good idea. We’ll look into it. Update: This feature is now possible in your stake and ward web site. Thanks for the suggestion!]

I am anxious to see the scriptures / study aids / and other online materials on lds.org have a mobile presentation.

Many of us have smart phones / iPhones / blackberry’s now. Having the church’s resources not only accessible … but presentable on a mobile web will be awesome. Hopefully that’s not a new idea to your team Joel.

Let me know how I can help.
