President Hinckley is a true hero - and a mentor to those like me who grew of age under his guiding counsel.

We will miss him dearly. But there is awe when considering the company he now keeps in heaven.

I will always be grateful for the life that he lived.

After 9/11/01, I couldn’t wait to hear President Hinckley in his General Conference address. He gave me a feeling of wonderful security that I could not get from any political leader. Not only did I consider him my prophet but also a special friend. No, he and I had never met, but there was that feeling of a personal connection. I will miss him.

He touch my heart and changed my life. Oct. of 2005 I took his challenge and read the Book of Mormon. He said that if we were to do that we would be bless and that those around us would be bless too. May 2006 I was re-baptized and now I’m a very active member. This past summer my son was baptize and this past Oct. my son baptized his daughter. Thank you Bro. Hinckley.

I am sorry to see him go, but also happy for him. I’m sure that serving these last few years without his wife has been hard for him. While we morn his passing, I’m confident it marked a happy reunion for him.

Like many of the prophets before him, while we may now miss his presence, I imagine that he will continue to watch over the work here and look out for our welfare.

Consider the following recorded by Benjamin F. Johnson concerning a conversation he had with Joseph Smith:

“Then with a deep-drawn breath, as a sigh of weariness, he sank down heavily in his chair, and said, “Oh! I am so tired - so tired that I often feel to long for my day of rest. For what has there been in this life but tribulation for me? From a boy I have been persecuted by my enemies, and now even my friends are beginning to join with them, to hate and persecute me! Why should I not wish for my time of rest?”
His words and tone thrilled and shocked me, and like an arrow pierced my hopes that he would long remain with us. I said, as with a heart full of tears, “Oh! Joseph, what could we, as a people, do without you and what would become of the great latter-day work if you should leave us?”
He was touched by my emotions, and in reply he said, “Benjamin, I would not be far away from you, and if on the other side of the veil I would still be working with you, and with a power greatly increased, to roll on this kingdom.”

I’m sure President Hinckley is not far from us, will continue to work with us, and be as concerned for our welfare now as he was in life. May we all look forward to the time that we will meet him again.

President Hinckley completed his priesthood assignment and has returned home and has left the church better than he found it. We will miss him yet we look forward to trying our hardest to follow his wonderful example. Thank you President Hinckley and may the Lord comfort your family.
